Karnataka Issues SOP for Pregnant Minors

Bengaluru: In a significant move, the Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to frame a clear protocol for handling cases of minor girls who become pregnant. Acting on this order, the Government of Karnataka has now released a Multi‑Stakeholder Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that is being implemented across the state. The SOP lays down responsibilities for multiple agencies — including the Child Welfare Committees (CWC), District Child Protection Units (DCPU), police, hospitals, and child care institutions — to ensure that such sensitive cases are dealt with promptly, lawfully, and with due regard to the rights of the child....
