Alert Woman Saves Newborn, Dog Squad Tracks Down Mother

Educate your community about safe alternatives to abandonment : PaaLoNaa

27 June 2024, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Team PaaLoNaa

In a remarkable incident in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the vigilance of a woman and the swift action of the police saved the precious life of a newborn baby. Shweta, from Bopal, noticed dogs barking near bushes. When she approached, she found a newborn baby lying there. She immediately alerted the authorities. Khushbu Vats from Lucknow reported the incident to PaaLoNaa.

Heroic Efforts of Police and Dog Squad

As per local media reports, the Ahmedabad rural police responded swiftly, rushing the baby (gender of the baby is not mentioned in any report) to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The newborn, now safe in the ICU, owes its rescue to timely intervention.

Some reports praised  ‘Chaser,’ a Belgian breed dog, saying it was instrumental in tracking down the mother based on the scent from the baby’s blanket, leading police to a location 500 meters from her home.

Praise from Government and Community

Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi,, praised Shweta and the police for their rapid response. According to him, the alertness of Shweta and the quick action of the Ahmedabad rural police saved a precious life. He stated that in this heart-wrenching incident, an abandoned newborn was found on the street, surrounded by barking dogs, but due to Shweta’s and the police’s swift response, the baby’s life was saved.

Mother Abandoned Baby Due to Fear of Social Stigma

The police investigation revealed that the mother had abandoned the baby out of fear of social stigma, as she was unmarried. The woman had a relationship with a man and became pregnant during this time. She is originally from Rajasthan, and the police are conducting further investigations into the matter

This incident underscores the importance of community awareness and the need for prompt action in suspicious situations. It illustrates how an alert citizen and quick police intervention can save a newborn’s life.
