Paa Lo Naa's Appeal

Addressing the critical issues of infanticide and unsafe abandonment requires a comprehensive and prioritized approach. First, we appeal to the Legislature to introduce and prioritize a new Infant Protection Act. This legislation is crucial for providing comprehensive legal protection and addressing gaps in current laws. Next, the Police and Judiciary are urged to handle cases of infanticide and unsafe abandonment with urgency and justice, ensuring effective enforcement and accountability.

The Medical Fraternity, particularly gynecologists, is called upon to integrate routine mental health screenings for new parents. Proactive mental health support can prevent tragic outcomes and ensure the well-being of both parents and infants. We then appeal to Parents to utilize safe surrender options if they cannot care for their newborns, preventing unsafe abandonment.

Society must raise awareness and advocate for stronger protective measures, creating a supportive environment for newborns. The Media plays a vital role in highlighting these issues, driving public discourse, and garnering support for protective initiatives. Lastly, Donors are invited to contribute to programs focused on infant protection and support services, providing essential funding for critical resources.

Through these coordinated efforts, we aim to create a safer and more supportive environment for every newborn, ensuring that each infant is given their due rights and protection.

Do not abandon your baby at unsafe locations

PaaLoNaa Appeals to Parents and Families: Choose Safe Options Over Abandonment or Infanticide

At PaaLoNaa, we urge all parents and families to take every possible precaution before considering extreme actions like abortion, infanticide, or abandonment. While we recognize the challenges of unexpected pregnancies, it’s important to remember that there are safer, more compassionate solutions for your child.

If a pregnancy continues and raising the child seems impossible, abandonment should always be the absolute last resort. Even then, we strongly encourage Safe Surrender over abandonment. Surrendering your infant to the proper legal authorities is a safe and secure way to ensure your child’s future, while protecting yourself and your family from legal consequences.

Unlike safe surrender, abandonment is a crime, and it puts the infant’s life at serious risk. Infanticide, tragically, can be carried out by not just mothers, but fathers and other family members, often due to a variety of overwhelming pressures—be it financial hardship, social stigma, gender preferences, mental traumas or family disputes.

We appeal to every parent and family member involved in such difficult decisions: please consider the safe options available to protect the life of your child. There is always a better way.

Together, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies and give every newborn the chance they deserve.

Act Responsibly to Save Abandoned Infants

If you ever encounter an infant in an abandoned state, it is your prime duty to protect their life. First and foremost, ensure that the baby receives immediate medical care. Abandoned infants are often in critical need of treatment, and your swift action could save their life.

After securing medical attention, it is essential to immediately inform the local police and Childline at 1098. Additionally, please contact the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of the concerned district and reach out to PaaLoNaa . These steps will ensure that the infant receives the protection and care they need, while authorities work to locate the perpetrators of the crime.

Beyond helping in emergency situations, you can contribute by raising awareness against the dangers of exposure, abandonment, and infanticide. Every voice counts in building a society that values the lives of newborns.

Furthermore, the younger generation should be educated about safe sex practices. Parents, elders, and schools all have a role to play in ensuring that young people understand the consequences of unprotected sex, which can lead to unwanted pregnancies and, tragically, the abandonment or death of newborns. A well-informed society can prevent these heart-wrenching crimes.

By taking these actions, together, we can help bring an end to this heartbreaking crime.

Sensitization and Proper Handling of cases of Infanticide.

Police Sensitization is Key to Saving Infant Lives

We believe it is very important to train and sensitize police forces because they are often the first to come into contact with cases of infant abandonment, exposure, or even infanticide. When handled with care and sensitivity, their response can make the difference in saving a child’s life.

We urge the police to create a dedicated section in their crime records for infanticide cases. This will help track the number of such incidents and allow researchers and authorities to study the reasons behind these tragedies. This information will be crucial in finding solutions to stop the crime of infanticide in India.

Additionally, postmortem reports in these cases should be made available to the public. By sharing this information, researchers and child rights activists can work more effectively to prevent these heartbreaking events.

Lastly, we appeal to the judiciary to set up fast-track courts for these cases. Swift action and strict punishments will send a strong message to offenders and help protect vulnerable infants from harm.

Media To Help Create Mass Movement.

The Crucial Role of Media in Addressing Abandonment and Infanticide

In this era of communication, the media has the power to spark a mass movement. Team PaaLoNaa urges the media to give priority coverage to cases of infant abandonment, exposure, and infanticide.

These crimes are often underreported, and when they are covered, the reporting can be careless, lacking important details like the date, location, and even the gender of the infant. This weakens the impact and hinders the necessary action.

We appeal to the media to conduct thorough follow-ups on each case and report with accuracy, ensuring all facts are presented. Beyond highlighting the crime, the media should also play a role in educating the public about safe alternatives, such as safe surrender and the availability of cradle points at hospitals and other designated locations where parents can safely leave their babies.

By giving attention to these life-saving options, the media can help prevent tragic outcomes and spread awareness that abandoning a baby is not the only choice. Media outlets should act as a pressure group and watchdog, ensuring that authorities handle these cases properly and that society knows about the legal and compassionate alternatives available.

Only with responsible, fact-based reporting and attention to safe options can the media truly contribute to reducing this crime and saving innocent lives.

Urgent Need for a New Infant Protection Act

We urgently call upon both the Central and State governments to introduce and prioritize a new law specifically designed for infant protection. This proposed Infant Protection Act is essential to address the critical issues of infanticide and unsafe abandonment of newborns.

It is crucial that the entire legislature gives this matter the attention it deserves. The government must take the lead in framing this new legislation and ensure its effective implementation. Coordination between the legislature, judiciary, and bureaucracy is vital to handle these cases efficiently and justly. We urge all relevant bodies to collaborate and bring this necessary act into existence.

Importance of Mental Health Screening

We call upon the medical fraternity, especially gynecologists, to prioritize mental health screening for new parents both before and after delivery. Addressing mental health is crucial in preventing infanticide and unsafe abandonment of newborns.

We urge gynecologists and healthcare professionals to implement comprehensive pre- and post-natal mental health assessments.

Early identification and support for mental health issues can significantly improve outcomes for both parents and infants. By integrating mental health screenings into routine care, we can better support new parents and contribute to the broader goal of infant protection.
